AI says comcast not so fly!

So I moved to the philly area in August 2011.  Signed up with some double play bundle at 69.99/month for first 6 months including HBO (thought it was supposed to be a year for the 69.99 rate and free HBO for 6 months).

6 months later I find that my rate went up to 79.99/month.  I chatted with a rep and they told me that my 69.99/month "promotional" period was for 6 months.  So I thought to myself that maybe it was my mistake and overlooked something earlier, ok, it happens, whatever.  Another 6 months later, August 2012, I find that my rate had gone up again, this time to 94.99, WTF!  I chatted with another rep and he asked me if I was aware that I was on a "promotional" thing and to verify that by looking at my statements which indeed did say "promotional"  How the hell can you call it a promo if the rate keeps going up every six months.  He gave me some copy and paste answer along the lines of, "well comcast offers discounts to entice customers...blah, blah, blah...something about providing great value".

Really, you call that giving me a discount, and that's how comcast "entices" customers, how the hell do you entice customers by raising their rates, oh yea it's a discount.  I then asked him what my "promotional" rate would be in another 6 months and he told me it would be 109.99.  Seriously, this is how we do business these days.  I was already going to cancel my cable services with them and just keep the internet, now I am looking for alternatives in the area.

  1. how can you complaint about this, a PROMOTION doesnt last forever, the promo is 1 year discount, there is a small increase after 6 mo and another one 6 mo after, but then just goes to reg price.

is not that it jumps every 6 months for the rest of your life, just stay with reg price and pay it as it is, and you will see that your bill is not going to change at all.

  2. Exactly. Its a promo. It expires. They do tiered promos now so they can last longer.

  4. You went up $10 after 6 months because you had to start paying for HBO... then at the 1 year mark you lost your promotional rate on your service... They did not rip you off or mislead you... you just can't figure things out for yourself.

  5. I have to disagree. Teaser rates are by nature, deceptive. A BIG multiplier for the mortgage crisis was an adjustible interest rates the banks charged. I believe the law should be very clear on services: Fixed Rate for a given period with all customers paying the same rate. cable is cable and seats on an airplane or in a movie are seats. No discounts by age. Service levels for Internet are measured in kps/sec, so if they want to make several different services, that's fine, but don't tease us. It's really abusive. I mean consider what you pay, especially for TV. TV is paid for by ads, and they should charge you no more than a buck or two a month + equipment rental for the feed.

  9. So, I worked for Comcast, first in Video Repair then in Billing. I hated it!!! I TRULY wanted to help my customers, and always got great customer reviews because I genuinely cared and wanted to get their problems solved. However, all they care about is the sales and getting people to sign up for more stuff even when they don't want to. It is told to us even in training that we can't take anything off their bill, we have to INCREASE it by at least $10.00!!! WTF is that????? If you think they treat their customer's badly, you should see the way they treat their employees!! I used to go around the system though and give customer's the credits that they deserve!! Comcast needs to burn to the ground!!
